I just spent a couple of days with some of the greatest people I know—my family. Unfortunately we were brought together for the funeral of my dear Uncle Mil. He packed a whole lot of life into his 88 years, and I’m grateful knowing that he is visiting with Jesus now.
It was awesome to get to sit down and visit with some of my cousins and my aunts and uncles. We don’t get to see each other that often, usually weddings and now funerals, with a couple of family gatherings in between. I am reminded each time that I am with them how fortunate I am to be part of a family that thinks family is so important! I am thankful for all those trips my mom took us on to see our cousins, and that so many of them make the effort to stay in touch with us.
Making trips to see familly is not always easy to arrange, but it’s important that each of us know our roots and where we came from. It helps knowing where our idiosyncracies and habits come from or where we got expressions or ideas. Passing down family traditions, stories and pictures will help the generations to come to understand who they are.
WOW–I didn’t mean to get so preachy — I guess I just realize how lucky I am to have such a great family and I hope you will take some time to appreciate yours!
